Our Unitarian Community and Chapel
In 1802 a new church was founded in Boston on the Universalist principles of 'salvation for all'.
In 1819 the present handsome Georgian chapel was built to accommodate 250 people. The hall (added in 1875) is used by several local secular and religious groups. The chapels imposing facade is seen to best effect from John Adams Way. Although 'Boston Town' usually conjures up images of the American East Coast, it is significant that Boston, Massachusetts, derives its name from the history of the
many religious dissenters who sailed from Boston, Lincolnshire seeking religious
freedom in the 1630s. Annual visits in each direction take place to strengthen the link with our 'cross-atlantic' Unitarian/Universalist Boston 'twin'.
