On Friday, 12th March, at 7.30pm, Yorkshire-born pianist Jill Crossland will give a concert at York's Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate, including a preview of part of a forthcoming Rameau recording. Admission is free. Jill's programme includes a Bach selection from the Well-tempered Clavier, Haydn's Piano Sonata in C sharp minor HXVI 36, Rameau Suite for Keyboard in E, Chopin Nocturnes, Etudes and Ballade No 3. Jill appears regularly at major venues at home and abroad, including the Wigmore Hall and South Bank in London, Sage Gateshead, Bridgewater Hall, Vienna Musikeverein and Leipzig Gewandhaus. Her recordings, including the Bach Goldbergs on Warner Classics and the complete Bach Well-tempered Clavier on Signum, have won worldwide critical acclaim. Jill has also made regular radio and television broadcasts, including live performances on Radio 3 and 4 and a recent appearance on Ireland 's Late Late Show with the violinist Chloe Hanslip. 'Last Friday in the Month' Concerts at York
Established and new musicians are booked for a refreshing new monthly concert series in the fine acoustics of St. Saviourgate Unitarian Chapel in the heart of York. Called "Last Fridays", the series starts on 26 March 2010 with Lucy Jubb (soprano) and David Hammond (piano). Concerts will take place on the last Friday of each month at 12.30pm, with ticket and programme at the door (£5/£3), and will last up to one hour. "Anyone who likes to be in town on a Friday might welcome a break for a cuppa followed by music in this lovely venue, with its first-rate Steinway piano", says Myrna Michell, recently-appointed minister of York Unitarians. Myrna herself has a great deal of experience as a musician and concert-organiser. "I noticed there was no venue for local musicians", she continues, "so we decided to fill this gap whilst introducing new and budding musicians to York audiences". A University of York graduate (BA Music Hons), Lucy Jubb lives in Harrogate, where she is Artistic Director of Gourmet Opera, an entertainments company providing classically trained singers and pianists for special events. In addition to teaching singing, Ms Jubb has performed as a soloist across England and Ireland, including Wembley Stadium, Castle Howard, Club LS1, York Minster, and Dublin's The Helix. An Oxfordshire native, David Hammond now lives in York and has studied music at the University of York. He has performed at Castle Howard, Selby Abbey, York Minster, the University of York, and Club LS1 in Leeds. "As we become more established, watch for performances from music students as well as more established local artists", concludes Myrna. Currently, the schedule includes: April 30 piano students Constance Clarke and Thea Woodrow Davies from York University, May 28 Ad Hoc Baroque, a Leeds group. The chapel is a short walk from Colliergate, along St. Saviourgate towards Spen Lane. The venue is fully accessible. If you wish to bring your sandwich to eat at 12.00pm, that is fine, but please be finished by 12.30pm when the performers begin. Further details from Myrna on 07931 775329. |
