Watford Unitarian Fellowship has its roots in the liberal wing of Nonconformist Christianity, offering an inquiring and undogmatic approach to religion in Watford and the surrounding area.
We commit ourselves to
- religious freedom, social justice, the conservation of life in all its forms and respect for the environment.
- providing services of worship in a liberal religious tradition,
- maintaining a welcoming and open religious community in the locality.
We offer fellowship to everyone who is searching for spiritual insight and truths from whatever source, whether secular or religious.
Our History
The Watford Unitarian Fellowship was the first Unitarian congregation in the UK to receive formal recognition as a Fellowship in 1947. Since then a gathered community has met regularly to give witness to our liberal religious principles.
The Fellowship marked its 50th Anniversary by planting a tree in Oxhey Park, Watford.
Services
- Our congregation meets for worship on the first Sunday of every month at 3pm in The Friends' Meeting House, Church Road, Watford.
- A worship leader conducts the service, usually traditional in format but not in content; and members of the congregation lead their own service once or twice a year.
- There is also an opportunity to meet and talk afterwards over refreshments.
Activities
- We meet on a weekday evening between services, in members' homes, for discussion over a range of interests, ethical, social and religious.
- As part of the London District of Unitarian Churches, the Unitarian national body, and international Unitarian bodies, we also encourage our members to participate in their meetings and events.
- Watford Unitarian Fellowship produces a quarterly newsletter containing articles of diverse interest, contributed by members.
