Our church is open to all who wish to worship with an open mind, in a spirit of reason, freedom and tolerance. Each person is encouraged to develop his or her own faith.
Services are held at 10.45 a.m. every Sunday.
Special services take place regularly throughout the year. They usually celebrate some specific event, such as Harvest or Mothering Sunday.
The church is very popular for rites of passage. Weddings, baptisms and funerals can be arranged through the minister.
Our
church community makes regular contributions to local and national charities.
Fundraising for the Church makes for a rich social life, the most important event being the Christmas Fair held towards the end of November. A Brass Band concert in November each year not only provides entertainment for local people but raises money towards Chapel funds.
Our Women's League is very
active.
Young people are valued members of our church family and are encouraged to take an active role in Sunday services and church life.
Monton Unitarian Church has a long history of Protestant dissent dating back to 1668.
There have been four houses of worship on this site, the first of which was torn down in 1715 by a Jacobite mob. The congregation was originally English Presbyterian, becoming Unitarian in the late 1700's. However, only with the passage of the Bill of 1844 was Unitarianism openly recognised as the faith at Monton Church.
The current church was officially opened on 23 September 1875.
Our current minister, the Rev. Charles VanDenBroeder, was trained at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Charles is a North American but has lived most of his life outside the U.S. He has had ministries in Horsham, Norwich, and Bradford before joining us.
