About the GA: A brief history
1825
The British and Foreign Unitarian Association formed by the amalgamation of three earlier societies. The Association assisted the establishment of congregations, contributed to the support of ministers, held annual conferences and meetings in London, and issued books and pamphlets on Unitarian thought and practice.
1881
The Association initiated the National Conference of Unitarian, Liberal Christian and other Non-Subscribing or Kindred Congregations to bring together representatives of all the churches in Britain that stood for freedom in matters of faith. The National Conference held triennial meetings, and inaugurated various funds and committees. Several of these are still active today.
1928
The General Assembly was brought into existence by the amalgamation of the British and Foreign Unitarian Association and the National Conference. The objects and operations of both these organisations were taken over to unify the forces of the movement.
