As a church we provide a congregation where people come to celebrate worship, to share times of joy and sadness, and to help each other in the quest for a faith to live by.
Services
Services are held at 11.00 am on Sundays.
Worship is normally conducted by our minister or a lay preacher and will consist of music, hymn singing, readings (from the Bible or from any relevant works), meditation, prayers and an address.
Children join our service, usually on the first Sunday in the month. They share our worship for the first quarter of an hour and then go to their own programme of activities.
Activities
After each service we enjoy coffee and a chat. We meet regularly to consider matters of social responsibility, religious concern, or of general interest.
Sometimes we have meals and social times together, such as Christmas and Harvest dinners.
We also have concerts and musical events.
History
The Old Meeting House was built in 1716 although the congregation first met in 1650 as General Baptists. Throughout the 18th century their views became steadily more liberal and, even in the face of persecution, they witnessed to freedom of belief so that by 1800 the congregation had become Unitarian.
