Three new ministry students announced

22 December 2025

The General Assembly and Unitarian College are delighted to welcome Jacqueline Woodman, Kyle McDonald, and Sian Murray as formal ministry trainees, following their interviews last month. They’ll begin their Residential Orientation Week in February 2026.

What’s particularly pleasing is that all three have come through our Advanced Lay Leadership course. We’ve watched them show up, do the work, and discover a calling that wouldn’t let them go.

This is a significant moment for these new ministry students, and for all those individuals and congregations who have supported them along the way – and is a moment for us to celebrate as a denomination.

They join our current GA ministry students Christina Smith, Peter Flower, Lizzie Kingston-Harrison, and Shana Parvin.

Liz Slade, Chief Officer of the General Assembly, says:

“Congratulations to Jacky, Kyle, and Sian – this step marks a beginning, but it also rests on years of commitment and practice to be ready to be accepted for ministry training. Between them, they bring a diverse range of experience and perspectives – a demonstration of how there is no single route to Unitarian ministry. This breadth of experience enriches our denomination’s ministry, and I’m grateful to all those who follow their calling to serve our movement and wider communities.”

Helen Mason, Director of Unitarian College, says:

“Unitarian College is delighted to welcome Jacky, Kyle and Sian to Ministry training. We are especially pleased because all three have moved onto Ministerial training from our Advanced Lay Leadership course. We have already recognised their aptitude, talents and strong calling to Unitarian Ministry. At this exciting time in the development of our faith and witness, we need more well-trained and committed leaders than ever and Jacky, Kyle and Sian will make a significant contribution to the future of our Unitarian witness.”

The General Assembly awards around £80,000 annually to cover students’ living costs during training, making sure ministry isn’t only accessible to those who can afford it.

If you’d like to contribute to the Ministry Students Fund, donations of any size help, from individuals, congregations, and Districts. As Liz says: “When you support ministry training you are investing in our denomination’s future. Every new minister strengthens every community in our movement.”
